If you are looking for a refreshing and flavorful dessert with a touch of Italian elegance, this limoncello sorbet recipe is a must try!

With the vibrant flavor of lemons and the sweetness of limoncello, this icy treat is perfect for hot summer days or a sophisticated way to end a dinner party.

A scoop of lemon sorbet sits inside a halved lemon, garnished with mint leaves, overlooking a scenic coastal landscape with blurred hills and water in the background.

SERVINGS:6

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 ¼ cups sugar
  • 1 ¾ cups water
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 cup of Limoncello liqueur

METHOD:

Prepare the syrup:

In a saucepan, bring the water and 2 cups of sugar to a boil. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Once dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool completely.

Add the limoncello:

Once the syrup has cooled, add the limoncello.

Stir well and set aside.

Whip the egg white:

With a mixer, beat the egg white with the remaining ¼ cup of sugar until stiff peaks form.

Gently incorporate the whipped egg white mixture into the limoncello syrup, mixing thoroughly.

Freeze and whisk:

Pour the mixture into a container suitable for freezing and freeze for 4 hours.

After the initial freezing, blend the mixture in a food processor to break up any ice crystals (because of the alcohol, it will not freeze).

Repeat the blending process every 4 hours, twice, to achieve a smooth consistency.

Overnight freezing:

After the final blending, let the sorbet freeze overnight for optimal consistency.

Serving and garnishing:

Before serving, whisk the sorbet once more to achieve a smooth, muddy consistency.

Pour the sorbet into glasses or flutes and garnish with lemon slices, if desired.

Optional presentation tip:

To serve in a lemon cup, cut a lemon in half and hollow out one of the halves.

Gently pour the sorbet into the hollowed-out half of the lemon, thus creating a charming edible cup for the sorbet.

This makes for an impressive presentation and adds a bit of fresh lemon flavor to each serving!
