MANDARIN LIQUEUR: THE PERFECT HOLIDAY DRINK
Discover the irresistible taste of homemade Italian mandarin liqueur, a sweet and aromatic treat perfect for any occasion.
This simple recipe captures the vibrant, citrusy essence of fresh mandarins, bringing the flavor of Italy right into your kitchen.

Ingredients
- 8 organic mandarins (peels only)
- 1 quart (4 cups) Everclear (95% or 190 proof) or pure alcohol
- 3 ½ cups water
- 3 cups sugar
Equipment
- Large glass jar with a tight-sealing lid
- Strainer
- Sterilized glass bottles for storing the liqueur
METHOD:
Preparing mandarin peels
Wash the mandarins thoroughly, dry them and peel only the orange outer part of the peel, avoiding the white core (it can make the liquor bitter).
Place the peels in the glass jar and pour in the Everclear. Seal the jar tightly and let it steep for about 10 to 15 days in a cool, dark place, gently shaking the jar every day.
Prepare the sugar syrup
After the infusion period, prepare the syrup: in a saucepan, bring the water to a boil and add the sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Allow the syrup to cool completely to room temperature.
Strain and bottle
Strain the infused alcohol through a fine strainer or cheesecloth to remove the skins.
Combine the syrup with the flavored alcohol, stirring well.
Taste and add more sugar if desired (be sure to mix well and let stand if adding more sugar).
Pour the liqueur into sterilized bottles, seal and let stand for at least 1 month in a cool, dark place.
This resting period allows the flavors to blend completely.
Serve
After resting, mandarin liqueur is ready to be enjoyed. Serve it chilled; you can refrigerate or freeze it before serving.
Storage
This liqueur will keep well for about 1 year in a cool, dark place.
