Follow this simple recipe to bring the flavor of the Mediterranean to your home.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup Limoncello liqueur
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • Fresh berries for garnish (optional)
  1. Preheat the oven to 370°F (190°C).
  2. In a food processor, combine the flour, confectioners’ sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add 1 egg yolk and continue to pulse until the dough comes together.
  4. Press the dough into a 9-inch tart pan, making sure to evenly cover the bottom and sides. Prick the bottom with a fork and place in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  5. Line the tart shell with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the weights and parchment paper and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let it cool completely.
  6. In a saucepan, whisk together the remaining 3 egg yolks, heavy cream, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  7. Remove the custard from the heat and stir in the Limoncello. Let it cool slightly.
  8. Pour the custard into the cooled tart shell and spread it out evenly. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the custard is set.
  9. Before serving, garnish with fresh berries if desired.
