Follow my simple steps to bring the flavor of Italy to your table tonight!
- 2 large bell peppers (I used three because they were smaller)
- 1.1 lb ground beef
- 3.5 oz sandwich bread
- 1.7 oz grated cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 5.3 oz diced mild provolone cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped parsley to taste
- Bread crumbs to taste
- Olive oil to taste
Prepare the filling for the peppers. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, torn sandwich bread, milk, egg, grated cheese, diced sharp provolone, salt, pepper, and chopped parsley.
Mix all ingredients by hand until well combined.
Take the peppers, wash them and cut them in half lengthwise.
Remove the seeds and white membranes, leaving the stems to create “bell pepper boats.”
Salt the inside of the peppers.
This not only adds flavor but also helps the cooking process.
Fill the bell pepper boats with the prepared stuffing, being careful not to leave any gaps.
Place the stuffed peppers in a baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs and drizzle with a little olive oil.
Bake the peppers in a preheated oven at 400 F for 45 minutes.
