  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus extra for coating
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup finely chopped  walnuts
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1/2 cup of powdered sugar until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. Combine the flour and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, mix in the chopped nuts.

  4. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place them 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

  5. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until set but not brown. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.

  6. While still warm, roll the cookies in powdered sugar. Once they have cooled, roll them in powdered sugar again to give them a snowy appearance.

  7. Store the cookies in an airtight container, and enjoy these delightful snowball cookies with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
