If the usual apple pie recipe has bored you, below are directions for making a creamy caramel apple pie that will leave your diners speechless.

And it’s pretty quick to prepare, too!

INGREDIENTS:

FOR THE CUSTARD:

  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 cup (240 ml) of milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar

 

Preparing the cream

Milk is poured into a saucepan and sugar and cornstarch are added.

You mix with a hand whisk, after which you add an egg and start mixing again.

Now we pass the saucepan over the stove and go on stirring until we get the consistency of a cream.

At this point we remove from the heat and let the cream cool to room temperature.

 

FOR THE DOUGH:

  • 5 tablespoons (70 grams) of butter
  • 1 and 1/3 cups (170 grams) of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of orange blossom aroma
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons (8 grams) of baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • a pinch of salt

 

Preparing the dough

In a large bowl we pour the flour, sugar and a pinch of salt.

Then add the baking powder, orange blossom flavoring and butter, which we will have previously softened and diced.

Then you take to kneading with your hands until you get a smooth mixture with a sandy consistency.

At this point we add the egg and and mix again.

Having obtained a dough ball, we divide it into two parts, one larger and one smaller, and put them both in the refrigerator for an hour.

 

The apples:

  • 2 tablespoons of butter (30 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 3 apples

Preparing the caramelized apples

First remove the peel and core, then cut the apples into slices.
After pureeing the apples in a frying pan, we add the sugar and butter to it.
Then we put the pan on the stove and mix with a spoon.

Composing the cake

We line a 9 inches-diameter hinged cake pan with baking paper.

Then you retrieve the dough from the refrigerator and grate the larger half on the bottom.

Covering the base, we pour the caramelized apples on top, distributing them carefully over the entire surface.
After that we pour the cream prepared at the beginning and level with a spatula.

Now we cover the whole thing by grating the other part of the dough. we can also sprinkle slivered almonds on top.

All that remains is to put it in the oven for half an hour at 350 F.

When the cake is baked, it should then be placed in the refrigerator for another 30 minutes.
