- 2 cups of sugar
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1/2 cup of water
- 2 egg whites
- 1 cup of roasted almonds
- 1 cup of dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- A pinch of saltInstructions:
- Line a baking dish with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar, honey, and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, then increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Continue to cook until the mixture reaches the ‘hard ball’ stage (260°F/127°C on a candy thermometer).
- While the sugar mixture is boiling, beat the egg whites in a large bowl until stiff peaks form.
- Once the sugar mixture has reached the correct temperature, slowly pour it into the beaten egg whites, continuously whisking until the mixture becomes thick and glossy.
- Fold in the roasted almonds, chocolate chips, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
- Pour the nougat mixture into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top with a spatula. Allow it to cool and set overnight.
- The next day, cut the nougat into squares or rectangles. Your Almond and Chocolate Nougat is ready to be served and enjoyed!
Almond and chocolate nougat can be stored.
Once cut into pieces, wrap each piece individually in parchment paper or wax paper to prevent them from sticking together.
Then, store the wrapped pieces in an airtight container.
You can store this container at room temperature for up to two weeks. If you want to store them for a longer period, you can keep them in the refrigerator.
If stored in the refrigerator, they will last about a month.
Remember that it is best to store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources, to maintain their texture and flavor.
Enjoy your homemade nougat to your heart’s content!
